about

“Skywire” was written in 2017 and revised in 2018. This piece was premiered at the Blair School of Music on April 7th, 2018 by the GreeneShark Duo (Clark Hubbard + Rashaad Greene). This piece is dedicated to Rashaad Greene for being a great musician and friend.

Compositionally, “Skywire” is written as a multi-percussion duo. One of the multi-percussion setups would be the components of a drum kit, and the other setup would be a vibraphone. While the drum kit is already a multi-percussion setup, writing for vibraphone in this manner was new and exciting. While there is still certainly a melodic and harmonic shape to “Skywire,” it was fun to write for and perform vibraphone where, conceptually, each bar is a unique instrument, and they all happen to have similar timbres.

The image on the cover of this piece is of a sculpture hanging above the streets outside of the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art in Oslo, Norway.
